An exceptional historical site! In ancient times, the writer Strabo mentioned the thermal site already used by the Romans. In the 14th century, the immense "quagmire" of Barbotan was known for the curative qualities of its mud. In the 16th century: great popularity with very famous people including Marshal de Montluc, Montaigne, Richelieu and Henri de Navarre who came there to treat their pains as much for the virtue of the mud as for that of the hot waters called Bains Clairs. Many foreigners also went there.
1843: construction of the first building, now destroyed, which now covers the open-air quagmire. Empress Eugénie and Napoleon III gave the resort its letters of nobility.
1958: under the leadership of its founder Adrien Barthélémy, who gives his name to the thermal park, the Chaîne Thermale du Soleil acquired the resort.
1984: construction of the current establishment in the spirit of the old tobacco dryers in the region.
2011: rehabilitation of the Bastide, a beautiful XNUMXth century residence into a Relais et Châteaux hotel*****-restaurant.
2012: creation of the Veinotour, a walking corridor with various latest generation therapeutic pools.
2014: renovation of the thermal swimming pool now with a view of the outside.
