Village of Gazaupouy

This oval-shaped fortified village, founded in the Middle Ages, stands alongside the town built in the 16th century to house a growing population. Its ancient ramparts and arched gateway, the true entrance to this charming village, are particularly noteworthy.
Gazaupouy invites visitors to stroll to its wooden arenas which host Landes races in May.

The church, dedicated to Saint Martin, features Romanesque remains on its north portal, including a reused Christogram in its tympanum. The building has undergone numerous visible transformations, such as the Gothic vaults whose apexes are level with the pews, and its apse with a semi-dome vault and a triumphal arch resting on two magnificent capitals. The most recent alteration is its bell tower, dating from the 20th century.

The church of La Plagne is located in a valley away from the houses (800m from the hamlet of Blans).
During the plague of 1652-1653, neighboring parishes vowed to come in procession to the church on Ascension Day. This custom continued for a long time. The complex forms a true parish enclosure with a porch, a cemetery, a former bell ringer's house, and a presbytery. The building, which has a bell gable, is Romanesque in style. The church was abandoned between 1800 and 1970.

Escape to the countryside and discover "Lands to Live In!" Vines, sunflowers, rapeseed, garlic, wheat... The rhythm of crops shapes the landscape, each with its own form, its own color, its own place. Such is the agricultural mosaic of the Ténarèze. For behind these landscapes, there are also people.
To get there, walk to the church square and take the first right. In the northwest corner of the square, in the angle formed by two houses, open the wooden gate. You are now in the community garden.
