Treat yourself to a double immersion in Gascony thanks to two hiking routes as rich as they are unique: the GR de Pays® Heart of Gascony and GR de Pays® of ArmagnacTwo paths, two atmospheres, one invitation to discover an exceptional territory.
This tour takes you through lush, rolling Gascony, past forests, lakes, hilltop villages, and fortified towns steeped in history. You'll encounter castles, dovecotes, and agricultural landscapes as far as the eye can see, along a lively and varied route. A gentle hike punctuated by the authenticity of the land and the natural beauty of central Gers.
Head west for an immersion in the land of vines and France's oldest brandy. This trail takes you to the heart of the Armagnac vineyards, between wine estates, Romanesque abbeys, and characterful villages. Here, the landscapes take on golden hues, traditions are alive, and gastronomy is savored at every step.
The GR® of Pays d'Armagnac: 346 km of history and landscapes
Here, every step resonates like an echo of the past. The path opens onto La Mémoire des Pierres, where fortified towns, castles, and abbeys reveal centuries of Gascon history. Then comes Les Pas de d'Artagnan, a spirited path through the birthplace of the most famous musketeer. Finally, Les Eaux Essentielles guides you between silvery rivers, peaceful ponds, healing springs... and the distilled soul of Armagnac.
This long-distance hiking trail, approved by the French Hiking Federation, divided into three thematic loops, links the major heritage, cultural and natural sites of the Pays d'Armagnac:
Loop 1, “The Memory of Stones” : a journey through domus and villas, bastides and castelnaux, abbeys, witnesses, through the centuries, of the rich history of Gascony;
Loop 2, “In the Footsteps of d'Artagnan” : a sensitive evocation of the illustrious musketeer, born in Lupiac, treading the lands which forged his Gascon spirit;
Loop 3, “Essential Waters” : a fluid path between rivers, ponds, thermal baths... and of course, the emblematic brandy which gives its name to this country and shared with our friends from Landes.
