With a total area of 149 ha of which 60 ha are classified as “Sensitive Natural Areas”, the Sérilhac forest is one of the rare vestiges of an ancient royal forest with an area of 1500 ha.
It is positioned within a collection of ponds and hillside reservoirs which are home to a population of European pond turtles (protected turtle) and numerous species of dragonflies. The forest is characterized by a mosaic of natural environments (wooded masses, undergrowth, meadows, streams, ponds) favorable to forest birds of prey (European hawks and honey buzzards).
