Visit Condom, its cathedral, its cloister and its private mansions
Former bishopric, today sub-prefecture and capital of the Ténarèze, Condom can be proud of its historical past rich in events and architecture. Its majestic cathédrale Saint-Pierre, an imposing work in flamboyant Gothic style dominates the city. Attached to the cathedral, the cloister led the bishops to their private chapel as well as to their bishopric.
This episcopal ensemble is completed by a range of private mansions from the 18th and 19th centuries, witness to the economic growth of the city of Condom. The commercial port, built in the 18th century on the Baïse River then nicknamed the silver river, opened the city to freight and trade, particularly of brandy of Armagnac. Still navigable, the river and its marina, from where a whole procession of hiking trails takes place such as the path to St Jacques de Compostela or Armagnac greenway, offer a diversity of activities to its visitors.
