Gers Tourism Collection/GEOLOGICAL PILGRIMAGE - MOUNTAIN BIKING - FFC 6 - Condom
Condom
Sleeping under the dark sky in a work of art is a very interesting idea. Even more so along the pilgrimage route that leads to Santiago de Compostela.
We love the two scales of the path, both the image and the symbol of this ancient road, its history and its importance, and at the same time its appearance in La Romieu. The path, so long and so big, gives the impression of being very local when you are inside the town.
The site of the artistic refuge was surprisingly normal compared to the beauty of the village center. We love the contrast between the park with the playground, the location of the camper vans and the idyllic image of the collegiate church. We also feel that this park is a place for local people and it is interesting that an artistic refuge is being created there which will function as a meeting place for the inhabitants and walkers of Santiago de Compostela.
Our visit to the Collegiate Church was very inspiring for us and gave us ideas for this work of refuge. We felt we needed to create an open structure alongside the closed architecture of the collegiate church and show the valuable interior of the structure.
The collegiate tree refers to a tree as a symbol where one can climb and escape from everyday life. But also like a tree under which we shelter, where we sit against the trunk and where we wait for the rain to stop.
It is a reference to the collegiate church and its towers, the walled garden and the old double corridors. It is an outbuilding of the collegiate church and a retreat for residents and passing walkers.
It is an outdoor meeting place surrounded by trees with a view of La Romieu. A place where we can look at the landscape around us and where you can sleep under the framed view of the sky. »
Combining sculpture, (landscape) architecture and participatory creation, the artists imagine, rather than autonomous works, lived and functional spaces. Places contributing to the relationship and encounter between individuals and their environment.
