Larressingle, a 100% medieval concentrate
Surprising, exotic, unforgettable... There is no shortage of adjectives to describe an escapade.
With its defensive architecture, incredibly well preserved, this 13th century jewele century takes us into a larger-than-life medieval immersion. From the outside, the tone is set: everything is there! Ditch, drawbridge, rampart, watchtowers, etc. welcome you to this smallest fortified city in France where time stands still. The intimate interior can be explored on foot, its pretty houses house shops while the heart of the village is occupied by the impressive (private) castle of the former lords of the place: the abbots and then bishops of Condom. Its church is also worth the detour: the purity of its Romanesque architecture and its modern stained glass windows exude a serene atmosphere here. However, Larressingle is not limited only to the time of the brave knights. Threatened with ruins, its rescue from the 1920s is worthy of a fascinating soap opera. The city owes its resurrection to the tenacity of Frenchman Édouard Mortier combined with the support of Boston patrons.
The village has many other secrets to reveal to you... We are waiting for you during one of our guided tours to let the walls of Larressingle speak together.
