The name of the city, Montreal (or “Montroyal”), recalls the royal origin of this bastide founded in 1255 by Alphonse de Poitiers. Built out of the rock on a promontory overlooking the small Auzoue valley, it played a strategic role as a barrier placed between the French and English domains at the time of the Hundred Years' War. From its past, Montréal-du-Gers retains a rich heritage: fortified walls, pointed city gate, half-timbered houses, square surrounded by solid stone arcades, narrow passages serving the different islets of the bastide

To explore the village independently, take the tour sheet available at the Tourist Office, the “Souvenir Factory”. Let yourself be surprised by this place of discovery which reveals 4 rooms with original decoration, offering a mosaic of essential activities in the region: thematic games, immersion in the Armagnac-gascogne vineyard, local recipes, souvenir shop...

Pleasant to live in, the town also benefits from a prime location in the heart of the vines which produce Armagnac and Floc de Gascogne. Montréal-du-Gers also owes its notoriety to the nearby Gallo-Roman villa of Séviac. The visitor finds himself facing an immense country palace where a series of rooms, marble colonnades, galleries opening onto gardens, sumptuous thermal baths and mosaic floors have been unearthed. Unique in Europe in their number, their colors and their state of conservation, these mosaics unfold like sumptuous carpets decorated with flowers and foliage, vines and grapes, birds and swirling suns. A must see !

During the summer, take advantage of guided tours of the paleontological site of Béon, property of the Natural History Museum of Toulouse which is still continuing excavations of this remarkable and unique site in Europe today.

Take La Clé des Champs and go to the living room! An invitation to rest, a hymn to relaxation, to see nature differently... Don't forget to leave the light on when you leave! To get there: go down from the village following the direction of Castelnau d'Auzan. On the D15, leaving Montreal, park in the leisure center car park. Go around the lake to the left for 250m.
