Secrets of stones.
This 16th century flamboyant Gothic church has undergone major restorations as it had been in ruins for a long time. It is built on an ancient Gallo-Roman site and was probably built by the Bishop of Condom, Jean Marre, or his successor Hérard de Grossoles, related to the Galard family, owners of the Château de Pellehaut, whose tomb is placed outside, against the north wall.
The building, isolated in the countryside, surprises with its interior size with its central nave with three vessels, its side aisles and the beauty of its vaults. On a plan with three naves of equal height, vaulted with lierne and tierceron ribs, characterizing the culmination of the Gothic age. The ribs of the vaults are held by sculpted and painted stone keystones representing characters whose iconography remains to be discovered.
Powerful buttresses were added to the north facade in the 18th century, probably to reinforce the building.

Spirit of the place.
"A string of chapels, and one of the very last and most elegant that have been imagined in this land of Montreal vines, among the 20 churches that have dotted the territory. Only 7 buildings have reached us, abandoned or destroyed by a few wars. But all around, whatever the commune, the bell towers are always plentiful, whether we point towards Eauze or the Pays d'Albret so close; so many sacred places that give the vineyard all its solemnity. For a long time, the region has been pacified and the enemies of a hundred years have rallied without hesitation to the local products and the advantages of the terroir." Bruno SIRVEN, Arbre et Paysage 32.
