Larressingle
Located between Larressingle and Beaumont-sur-l'Osse, on the Way of St. James, 1000 kilometers away, the Lartigue bridge is also known as l'Artigue or d'Artigue.
It is one of the last Romanesque bridges built between the 12th and 13th centuries, a rare specimen of civil architecture still existing, and built especially for the passage of pilgrims.
Romanesque in style, it probably predates the arrival of the Spanish Order of Santiago who established, right next to it, its commandery, a hospital, a Notre-Dame church, of which nothing remains today.
Since 1998, it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Routes of Saint James of Compostela in France.
A pleasant place to stroll and learn about the history of the bridge and the Way of Saint James, thanks to the discovery panels.
Theme(s) : structure, bridge / viaduct.
