Gascogne Lomagne Tourist Office - +33 (0)5 62 64 00 00
Isabelle Souriment and Hans LucasMarine and Caroline walk through the door of the Tourist Office, everything is in place, Punita on the beautiful yellow sofa and Brice on his favorite blue hammock (sorry his armchair)… They know how to entertain in view of glasses of water already served, one for each! Nothing planned for the hosts, have they already drunk in preparation for the exchanges… That is not the subject.

Marine asks Brice if she can try the blue armchair, settles in while Caroline opts for the pale pink, strangely neglected, despite an engaging chromatic promise
Punita : Hello, I'm brand new here, and it's time to kick off the anthill!
Brice : How so ?!
Punita : Well, don't you think we only see you? Not that I want to be seen (in fact I don't want to) but another face, another genre, other ideas, you're finished man.
Brice : You're right but the old days you know, they are robust, not justifiable, but hey... I nevertheless want to ask the first question! (Brice taking a deep breath) I think Roller Derby is too American, don't you?
Punita (trying to limit damage at the start of the interview) : A sport born in the United States in the 70s, created by women for women, and today also open to trans and non-binary people to implement in the Gers, no small feat, nope?
Marine : Rurality and progressivism seem antagonistic at first glance, but they are two parents who are sometimes angry but not incompatible! Far from it, just look at the success that our association/club will experience from its creation. Nothing was clearly defined but it's an understatement to say it, something was dormant. We start by meeting a few of them, in a chosen mix, at the Méridienne bookstore. Among the first-timers, Mathilde played Roller Derby before... Another candidate wanted to play without knowing it. And this sport is also defined through values, inclusive, feminist, benevolent, no less was needed to “step in”.
Caroline : Behind it is an unexpected influx of interested people. For the most part, having never put on skates or should I say quads!
Brice : In Marsolan, quads are authorized to use certain hiking routes. It’s all the cooler because this corner of the territory is of striking pagan beauty! You can even pick tulips there….
Neo-saving Punita : Brice, are you only a subscriber to Universalis on-line?
Brice : Is there anything wrong with being right?
Punita : Quads are skates with two front wheels and a brake at the front and two wheels at the back, like a quad but for the feet. Well done in any case, and finally how many players do you have?
Caroline : Very quickly around thirty, aged between 16 and 60 years old. No graduates at the moment to provide lessons for the youngest, we would like, we will see. But that is not the vibrant heart of our action today. There is therefore a space for discussion and exchange to address questions and social issues relating to feminism and others together in a healthy climate. Then there is sport! And all of this fits together very accurately, it is surely this coherence which attracted so much, so quickly.
Brice : I played rugby for a long time with, I must say, a certain talent. I personally have a definite preference for contact sports. Respect the rule while confronting!
Punita : Is this a question or an autobiography?
Navy (diplomat or cream) : There is contact in Roller-Derby, it is even the essence of the game. We are protected at the knees, elbows, wrists and head and even the rear end with foam, that is to say that we goes to the mat often, well, directly on the synthetic covering of the gymnasiums. Watch out for shortcuts! The rules are numerous, side by side they occupy 80 pages of a large manual, written in English.
Brice : You know Google translate, I discovered that! I translated the lyrics of Tontons Flingueurs into Spanish for a friend!
Punita : One more question, the Pulitzer is definitely reaching out to you at this rate! Speaking of prices, where are you on your list of achievements?
Caroline : Well, not a little proud indeed! In 2023 we finish 5rd out of 8 for our first participation in the Choco trophy. Having won against Albi, Nîmes, Montpellier, Toulouse, so confrontations against big cities which turn to our advantage is gratifying!
Brice : We don't even know what your name is?
Punita as an aside : You notice the progress, he asks questions during an interview!
Marine : The Brutal Rurales!
Brice : It sounds good, I feel like it rhymes.
Punita : You just saw Bernard Pivot! And I thought I saw on your Instagram @rollerderbygers rather crazy player names!
Caroline : We have a very tasty anthology yes: Satanus, MC Stite, Lucifesse, Brad pit Boule, La Rouxste, Floc Off, Gouine Elisabeth…
Brice (not interrupting) : Ahahahahahah! and.. and… Citro’haine!
Marine : Hehe… To return to the pure practice of sport. To summarize with a machete, each team is made up of 15 players, 5 being on the field, the others ready to bring freshness! The two teams are together in the same space: an elliptical track included in the area of a handball court. A jammer (1 per team) will try to get past the 4 opposing blockers, and vice versa for the other team. The quads, essential tools for this sport, provide even more spectacular speed, intensity and contact! Finally, a caring climate is at the heart of the creation of sport, as evidenced by the presence of numerous referees, outnumbering all the players.
Punita : And how long are we going?
Brice : fifteen days to properly decompress, otherwise you don't cut it, you can't do it
General sigh, neighborhood included
Caroline : Official matches last 1 hour, but these delays may lengthen depending on timeouts and other subtleties activated by the teams. Each half is made up of jams with a standard duration of 2 minutes.
Brice : That's all well and good, but when can we see you at work?
Caroline : We are organizing the Sol Tournament on Sunday April 21. We will invite two teams with our “godmothers” the Pink Bloc from Toulouse. A time of sporting and friendly confrontation with a friendly team. There will be refreshments, catering and even some Brutales merchandising. Another way to see us come to our training during the week (Tuesday and Friday?). But that’s not all but that’s not all…
Brice : The tactic of the gendaaaaaaarm is….
Punita (saving the sinking furniture) : No offense to Mr Bourvil and this remarkable culture with which you shower us, Brice. That’s not all…but what else?
Marine : You have to come dance at Roller Disco! The third edition is for December 2024 in Fleurance this time. Open to all, you put on skates and go spinning and dancing. On the podium a DJ swings his tempo and at the other end the refreshment bar pours out his drinks. The climate is good, inclusive, delicious and it lasts into the night.
Brice and Punita with one voice : count on us!
Brice : Earlier you were talking about feminism, besides contact sport, do you lead fights?
Marine : Since our creation! The association which runs the club has approached family planning, the feminist café of Auch, Solidair', and the Les Sorcières association in Auch. We organized the very first feminist march in Fleurance in 2023 and this year we will participate in the pride march in Auch.
Punita : What work, what great commitment, what success, what courage
Brice : What a beautiful yellow and black jersey! What song defines you?
Caroline and Marine : We don't really define ourselves but when we enter the field before a match we introduce ourselves with music. Our choice naturally turned to Engraved in the Rock! or randomly but in any case we love it.
Brice (in History Wednesdays) : The motto of Fleurance: Fleurance was flowering, Fleurance is flowering, Fleurance will be flowering. Between your logo, your story being written and your domicile in this city, everything seems to match.
Punita : You progress ! Are you deconstructing yourself too?… Well, we’re not going to ask too much so quickly. In any case, well done and see you soon.
Our two ambassadors of the Brutales Rurales left because a train was waiting for them and not least Social Progress! In addition, in the office the doors open by themselves, automatically.
