More about us :
Brendan, a 12-year-old apprentice monk, lives with his uncle, the stern Abbot Cellach, at Kells Abbey. This important institution houses many monks who are scribes and illuminators (Ireland was renowned for this art during the 8th and 9th centuries). Brendan dreams of becoming an illuminator himself.
Unfortunately, Abbot Cellach is preoccupied with another concern: confronting the Viking threat. Obsessed with his task, he gives a rather lukewarm welcome to Brother Aydan of Iona, the most famous of illuminators. But the latter quickly discovers Brendan's great talent for drawing and decides to make him his apprentice. During his initiatory journey,
Brendan ventures into the heart of the forest, the realm of the pagan deities of the Celtic world, where he faces the worst dangers alongside the young fairy Aisling. He learns to overcome his fears, including that of the terrible "Great Dark One" (or Crom Cruach, a malevolent god of Irish Celtic mythology).
