Ludwig van Beethoven - Egmont Overture Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Flute Concerto in G major Ludwig van Beethoven - Symphony No. 4
The Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, one of the world's most prestigious orchestras and a loyal supporter of the Nuits Musicales en Armagnac, will open the 56th edition of the festival at Lectoure Cathedral. It will perform a major symphonic work under the musical direction of a young talent, thus combining the prestige of this ensemble with the spotlight on young hopefuls of the international musical landscape.
"A young Greek girl between two Nordic colossi": this is how Berlioz described Beethoven's Symphony No. 4, nestled between the majestic Eroica and the tempestuous Fifth. Lighter and more playful than its neighbors, it shines with its irresistible energy and dancing breath.
To open this program, Beethoven will be darker and more tragic with Egmont, an ardent score which reflects the struggle for freedom of Goethe's hero.
Then Mozart's grace would prove Mozart himself wrong with the Flute Concerto in G major. Commissioned by a wealthy enthusiast, this concerto reportedly left Mozart perplexed: "I don't like the flute," he reportedly confided in a letter to his father. Yet, it offered the instrument a setting of rare beauty. The second movement, almost operatic, is distinguished by its gentleness, while the final rondo, lively and dance-like, evokes the lightness of Viennese serenades.
Finally, Symphony No. 4 will display its brilliance and joyful impetuosity, reflecting the most solar side of Beethoven.
A concert where the spirit of freedom and brilliance will blow!
