New exhibition in the Simonow Collection: Stories of Water... (Fine Arts, 16th-21st centuries)

For over twenty years, the thematic presentation of Michael Simonow's collection has been one of the most anticipated events of the Gers cultural season. Flaran Abbey, the beating heart of our heritage policy, is honored to once again host an exceptional collection of works, which enriches the Gascon region far beyond its borders.
The 2026-2028 edition, entitled "Stories of Water," features some thirty major paintings from the 17th to the 21st centuries, notably by Ziem, Courbet, Monet, Boudin, and Ruszkowski. A pictorial journey along seas, rivers, streams, and lakes, reflecting the infinite variations of light and climate.
More than just a poetic theme, water has become a pressing issue today. It prompts us to consider the fragility of natural balances and the challenges posed by climate change, the effects of which we are already feeling in our own Gers region. Here, art invites us to see this precious, vital, and universal common good in a new light.
This exhibition once again illustrates Michael Simonow's generosity and vision. Through its richness and diversity, this collection now elevates Flaran Abbey to the ranks of major regional museums, worthy of the finest national collections.
May this tribute to water, in all its aesthetic and symbolic dimensions, also be a tribute to culture: essential, shared and accessible to all.
