If football is king elsewhere in France, here in Ténarèze, rugby reigns as undisputed master!
Rugby union is not just a popular sport in the South-West of France, it is an institution!!!

Rugby is more than just a weekend distraction; it is a place for meeting, exchanging and sharing with family and friends. His “third halves,” essential after the matches, are almost as important as the match itself. The values of rugby, such as respect, team spirit and surpassing oneself, are in perfect harmony with the temperament of the inhabitants of Gers.
Derbies, these matches between neighboring teams, are festive events that go beyond the simple sporting framework. They are the expression of an ancestral, passionate and friendly rivalry.
This sport gave rise to legendary players like Paul Biemouret and Jean Trillo in the 2s and today the captain of the French team, Grégory Alldrit, who made his first weapons in Condom as well as Pierre Aguillon who started in Montréal-du-Gers.
With more than 72 members spread across more than 000 clubs, Occitanie is the leading regional league in France for rugby union. His practice and his state of mind are anchored in the cultural heritage of Occitania. Much more than a sport, rugby enlivens many villages in the region where all generations, families, friends…
And for the most curious, how rugby works, with a classification by category from the most prestigious national teams to regional teams, starting with the Top 14 followed by the Pro D2, then come the Nationals 1 and 2, the Federals 1 , 2, 3 finishing with regional teams 1, 2 and 3!
In Gers Lomagne, two clubs share the local “breeding ground”: Lectoure and Fleurance. 10 km apart, these two clubs have sometimes worked together for the rugby school, share the organization of major youth tournaments and continue to bring out talented players!
Founded in 1906 (Fleurance) and 1907 (Lectoure) they operate in two different divisions. The recent rise of the ASF (Fleurance) has propelled them into Nationale 2, very close to the Elite. Lectoure plays in Regional 1.
In both cases, the level of the game is surprising for these two rural towns! But we know it well, here, rugby is cultural... On Sundays at the edge of the field, the entire local population gathers (almost) for festive, gourmet and above all sporting afternoons!
